Open source software and knowledge development: the example of the Open Food Network

Open Food Network is a network of internationally federated cooperative platforms to co-develop open source software and knowledge to support short circuit performance and scalability. The community consists of three interlocking “levels”:

  • short circuits, local level (buying groups, farm drives, direct farm sales, etc.)
  • rather regional / national / transnational entities as the case may be, co-managed by the local short circuits
  • an international federation of territorial entities that pool the development and maintenance of open information commons
